What is Life Coaching and How is It Done?
What is Coaching?
Coaching is a very effective method of communication and problem-solving. The Coach and the Client work together to co-create the relationship. The focus is solely on the Client. The Client sets the agenda to be discussed during the sessions and the Coach provides a supportive, safe, accountable environment in which the Client can make decisions about their lives and business, as well as how to attain their defined goals.
Coaching focuses on the now with a look towards the future. Coaching does not dwell in the past.
Coaching is not therapy and it is not psychological counseling.
With Life Coaching, we work together to help you create the life you want. Do you feel you need more balance in your life? Are you facing a transition in your life, whether it be the passing of a loved one, entering a different stage in life, or change in family situation? Do you want to focus on your wellness in mind, body, and spirit? Are you at a cross-road in your life in your relationships, priorities, career? Do you simply, and very importantly, want to consciously reconnect with who you are NOW, and what you want NOW, and develop an action plan that will help you move towards and attain your goals? Then working with a Coach who will support you, provide objective, nonjudgmental feedback, hold you accountable so you can attain your goals, and cheer you on all the way, can be what you need to define and live your best life.
There are times in most of our lives when a change in our careers is something we want or must address. It may be that we feel we are in a rut in are current job or we long to do something else. Possibly we are facing a lay off by our employer or we almost want to cause ourselves to be laid off so that we are forced to pursue the dream job we know is out there for us. Career coaching will help you develop an understanding of who you are NOW, what you want in a career NOW, what your skills, talents, and interests are NOW, as well as develop a viable plan for your career. In doing so, many people are better able to choose and pursue or develop their next career move with less fear and more confidence and purpose. Career Coaching can help you to embrace the change you are facing by understanding the opportunities that exist when change - self initiated or "forced" - occur. Having the career you want is a necessary part of living your best life.
Many of us have decided that having our own business is our best path. We may have our own law offices, real estate businesses, accounting offices, medical practices, consulting businesses, coaching practices, etc. As a business person, not only must we have the skills, talents, and credentials to provide the services we offer, but we must also address the daily management of the business while expanding our client base. Business Coaching provides the Client a safe space in which to discuss their challenges and successes, as well as to identify and articulate their goals for their business and a plan by which to attain them. The Coach works with the Client in a co-creative environment and listens to the Client as they establish the areas of their business that they want to address and what outcomes they would like to have. Together, they develop an action plan and the Coach supports the Client as she moves along on the plan to effectuate change and/or grow her business. Some areas that may be discussed are: how to handle a difficult issue with an employee; how to increase business; how to have balance in one's life as one is a successful business owner; how to motivate employees; how to take the business in a different direction; how to address the changes in the economy; etc. The agenda is established by the Client and the Coach works with her on each matter to co-create the best business, and consequently, the best life the Client can live.
